Police searching for suspicious man near Covington schools

Tue, 10/04/2016 - 18:23 RCN Newsdesk

Covington Police reported Tuesday that a suspicious person has been seen in the area of two local schools and may have attempted to abduct a child.

In a news release, the police department stated that the incidents were reported near Sixth District School in Austinburg and John G. Carlisle School downtown. One young victim reported that the suspicious person attempted to take her by the arm on the 1700 block of Maryland Avenue near Sixth District.

The girl was able to kick the man and run away.

Based on witnesses' reports, police are looking for a white male in his thirties with blonde hair, who may be driving a black older model vehicle. Further details about the suspect's appearance were not available.

Police said the suspect may also ride a bicycle in the morning hours around the schools and that he may be homeless.

The police department stated that the matter is being taken very seriously, that the school district has been notified, and that they are in constant communication.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Covington Police Detective Nick Klaiss at 859.292.2375
