Will I receive a new computer each year?
When students enter high school, they will receive a MacBook Air that they will use until graduation.
What is included with the MacBook Air?
The MacBook Air will come with a battery, power cord and a case.
Who can use my MacBook Air?
The MacBook Air is assigned to individual students by identifiable information specific to each MacBook Air. Students shall not let family members or friends borrow the MacBook Air.

May I personalize my computer?
Students may use non-permanent static stickers only. Students shall not use permanent stickers or write on the MacBook Air or the case to personalize in a permanent manner.
What is the annual maintenance fee?
Each school year there will be a non-refundable fee per student, $20 per year or $10 per semester.
What will the annual maintenance fee cover?
The fee will cover MacBook Air repair and replacement program.
What are the fees for replacement of the MacBook Air and other deployed equipment?

AC Adapter - $79
Power adapter extension cable - $19
MacBook Air Skin - $12
*If a laptop and/or other equipment is damaged due to gross negligence, the expenses will be charged at full replacement value.
What happens if a MacBook Air is lost or stolen?
Immediately contact an assistant principal and appropriate law enforcement agency for assistance. If the MacBook Air is determined stolen, a police report must be filed by the student and parent/guardian within 24 hours of the incident. The police report must be brought to the school principal by the next school day. If the police report is not delivered to the school principal, the parent/guardian will be responsible for the full replacement cost.
What happens if I leave Covington Holmes High School?
If a student leaves Covington Holmes High School and/or Covington Independent Schools, the MacBook Air, battery charger, power cord and case will be collected as part of the formal withdrawal process through the Registrar’s Office at Holmes High School.
What happens if a family does not pay the annual maintenance fee or does not want the MacBook Air to come home?
In either case, the student will be considered a “Day User” where the student will pick up the assigned laptop before school and be required to turn it back in at the end of the school day before leaving the campus.
Will students be required to bring the MacBook Air to class every day?
Students must bring their MacBook Air to all classes, every day unless specifically instructed not to do so by their teacher. Students are expected to bring their fully-charged MacBook to school every day.
Can students load software and apps on the MacBook Air?
District approved software is pre-installed on the MacBook Air. District software updates will be automatically installed by the Covington Independent Public Schools Technology team. The installation of apps will be approved by the teacher and district technology team.
Can I use a thumb or flash drive with the MacBook Air?
Yes, students can connect and use flash drives.
How will Covington Independent Public Schools prevent access to inappropriate websites?
Each MacBook Air is filtered for inappropriate content and always passes through the District’s filtering applications when connected to the internet no matter the location. Parent supervision is encouraged when students use their MacBook Air at home.
How do I care for the MacBook Air?
Anytime the MacBook Air is moved from one location to another, it should be closed, remain in its case and transported in a backpack. Avoid exposing the MacBook Air to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
