About Sixth District Elementary School...
OUR MISSION: We've developed a mission statement that is easy to recall and captures what we are all about:
"Striving for Individual eXcellence through
Teamwork and High expectations."
This mission statement is certainly easy to recall because it spells out SIXTH but, moreover, it makes clear that our primary focus is academic excellence. Furthermore, it expresses that we hold high expectations for students and for ourselves, and acknowledges that we cannot accomplish this lofty goal of academic excellence alone. We can only do so by working together as a team that includes staff, students, parents and guardians, and the community.

The following lists some highlights that demonstrate how we're translating our mission into action:
-We have a Literacy Coach to oversee our schoolwide Reading Mastery (Direct Instruction) program, in addition to providing small-group interventions to students who need additional support in reading.
-We have a full-time Response to Intervention specialist to support and enhance Math and Reading instruction through teacher collaboration, tiered support, and small group interventions.
-We have a counselor on staff that provides behavioral interventions to our students who need additional support in order to be successful in school.
-We provide Orton-Gillingham methods of Reading instruction to students who need a different approach to learning.
-We are currently building interest in a PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) that supports our school in many ways, such as providing funding for school projects, holding family fun nights, and offering many activities that benefit students, parents, and staff.
-We provide a tutoring program that involves over 100 of our students through Extended School Services funding.
-We provide full-day kindergarten for five-year-olds.
-We utilize Title I funds to reduce class size and to provide Arts and Humanities for all of our students.
-We assist parents in removing barriers to student achievement in a variety of ways through our FRC (Family Resource Center).
