Biggs Celebrates 5-Star Rating

Biggs Celebrates 5-Star Rating

The James E. Biggs Early Education Childhood Center is hosting an open house celebration to share with the community, parents, and students, why it is one of the best preschools in the state. Biggs received the highest rating possible from the state last year – a 5 Star Rating. Now the preschool staff not only wants to celebrate the honor but would like to show the community what a 5-Star rated preschool looks like and how it operates.

The All-Star Celebration begins at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, at Biggs, 1124 Scott Boulevard, Covington, Ky. All are invited.

“We are so proud of the work that we do at Biggs,’’ said Elizabeth Miller, principal of Biggs. “”Our dedicated preschool staff works diligently to ensure the success of every child, every day they are here with us. We provide excellent services at Biggs and this rating affirms our work.’’ Biggs operates morning and afternoon sessions. Students attend three hours a day Monday through Thursday. Transportation is provided to and from home and daycare. The free preschool program is for qualifying 3- and 4-year old children who live within the boundaries of Covington Independent Public Schools. The preschool focuses on literacy and math skills to prepare children for kindergarten. It is staffed with highly-qualified personnel, who hold four-year degrees including Kentucky Early Childhood Certifications. Biggs, which was established in 1990, has an enrollment of 340 children.

“Our staff values the unique needs of all our students,’’ Ms. Miller said. “Just as our motto says, we are building a foundation for learning here.’’ Covington Superintendent Alvin Garrison said Biggs is so deserving of top rating from the state. We would like everyone to come and see how the teachers and staff are devoted to making sure the children are successful, he said.

“For many of our students, this is their first interaction in an educational setting,’’ Mr. Garrison said. “When they have positive experiences at Biggs, we can almost guarantee anyone that they will have successful school careers. The work at Biggs is of utmost importance. ’’ Biggs received the 5-Star rating from the Cabinet of Health and Family Services, Department of Community Based Services, Division of Child Care and the Kentucky Department of Education.
