This update follows a partial roof collapse at Latonia Elementary School on New Year's Eve, which has caused a temporary shift to Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) for Covington Independent Public Schools.
District-Wide Schedule: January 6–9, 2026
Tuesday, Jan. 6:
In-Person Learning: All students return to school as planned EXCEPT for Latonia Elementary students.
Latonia Elementary: No school for students.
Wednesday, Jan. 7 – Friday, Jan. 9:
NTI Days: The entire district will transition to virtual learning from home.
PLEASE NOTE: The Kentucky Department of Education specifies that NTI can only be used when an entire school district is closed due to health or safety concerns. It is strictly prohibited for just one school in a district to switch to virtual learning while others remain open in person. It is an "all-or-nothing" district-level tool.
Important Information for Students
Latonia Elementary Students: You will receive your assignments from the school. Please begin working on them during the NTI days (Wednesday–Friday).
All Other Students: You will receive your NTI assignments from your teachers while at school in person on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Information for Staff:
Work Schedule: All staff members are expected to report to work in person, Tuesday through Friday.
