Dear Covington Families,

The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. Following a careful assessment of our neighborhood conditions and in response to the weather forecast, Covington Independent Public Schools will utilize Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) for the remainder of this week: Thursday, Jan. 29, and Friday, Jan. 30.

This proactive decision is based on the extreme cold forecast and an evaluation by Covington school officials, which determined that many sidewalks remain impassable due to deep snow, forcing students to walk in the streets. More than 55% of our students either walk to school or are dropped off by a parent or guardian. While some main roads have been cleared, many sidewalks remain snow-covered.

Plan for Thursday and Friday:

  • Students: All students will complete assignments from home. Please look for specific assignments and instructions from your child's school or teachers.

  • Staff: All staff members report to work.

  • Questions: Should you have any questions regarding your child’s assignments, please contact their school directly.
