The Career and Technical Education department on Tuesday hosted a preview event to showcase cutting-edge manufacturing equipment, marking the official launch of the SME PRIME® program at Holmes High School.

The transformational tools and curriculum were made possible by a generous donation from the Charles L. Shor Foundation. Founder Charlie Shor, foundation members, local business leaders, educators, and students gathered to see the new technology in action. With this launch, Holmes joins a prestigious national network dedicated to preparing the next generation of manufacturing and engineering talent.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our students to be exposed to advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment,” said Angela Turnick, principal of Holmes High School. “This equipment enables them the opportunity to learn by doing. We thank Mr. Shor and the SME Education Foundation for helping open doors for the next generation of Holmes students.”

Right now, the equipment is being integrated into the school’s carpentry, welding and additive manufacturing programs. However, the ultimate goal is to launch a dedicated machinist pathway to meet the high demand for skilled machinists in the area.

By partnering with SME PRIME (Partnership Response in Manufacturing Education), Holmes High School is strengthening the local talent pipeline and opening doors to high-wage, high-demand career opportunities right here in our community.
